The essence of confidence in God's faithfulness prevails in Coatesville. Through many a toil and snare, God's church at Coatesville has endured as a beacon of His presence and light in the community.  - Rodger Ward

"The Rock"

The rock which stands in front of the church was discovered in the rebuilding of the Coatesville Methodist Church in 1949.  It was one of the stones on which a corner of the building stood which had been built in 1864.  The building stood until the Tornado destroyed it on Good Friday in 1948.  (The 1854 building had been destroyed by fire).  The present building was built in 1949.

On a part of the plaque which quotes Scripture, it reads, "Peter said, 'Thouart the Christ, the Son of the living God!' . . . Jesus answered, 'Upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.' " ---Matthew 16:16-18.

Buildings have been destroyed, but not this rock on which the old building stood.  So Peter's faith that Jesus was the Devine Son of God was the rock on which Jesus would build His church.  Our same faith is a rock so long as we continue to believe in Jesus as Peter did.  The Church of Jesus Christ will last as long as our faith continues.  Faith that does not include regular attendance at Public Worship lacks a witness which could destroy the Church.  The Church lasts only as long as the witness lasts.  Is your faith of "The Solid Rock" variety, or do people know of your witness?  SEE YOU IN CHURCH SUNDAY?
